Dell Studio 15, my review

Thank you to my lil sister for allowing me to play with her lappy.

I was suppose to get a studio 15 before i discovered the benq.
So i know kinda a little more than the compaq review.

Specs~

  • Intel Core 2 Duo CPU P8700 @2.53GHz

  • 4 GB ram

  • ATi Mobility Radeon HD 4570. 512 ram

  • 320 GB hard drive.

  • Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit.

  • Cd/Dvd drive. Slot loading.

  • Bluetooth, Wlan N.

  • 15' inch LED Screen with webcam and face recognition.

  • 3 Usb with 1 e-sata, 1 HDMI, 1 VGA projector, 1 lan network, 1 memory card reader, 1 express card slot, 2 audio jacks, 1 mic jack.

First look & feel~

  • The laptop is the dark red colour and damn its nice.

  • The texture of the cover is smooth but has some rubber feel to it. Very nice.

  • I like how the power cable has a light at the connector head and that the laptop power button is at the side.

  • The sad thing is that this studio 15 doesn't have those touch sensitive multimedia buttons.

  • The weight of the lappy is ok. Wont break your shoulder off unless carried around for 3 hours or less.

What I've got~

  • Ok so first thing i tried out was the speakers. It can go pretty loud with pretty good clarity only the bass lacks a little when at max volume.
  • The screen can go from pretty dark to blinding glare. Not totally a bad thing. It also comes with a webcam for all web chats. At the start up, it will ask whether you wanna use the face recognition security option. (just type your password, its way faster). Webcam quality is average but better than my benq's. It is also bolt on pretty tight and secure.
  • The keyboard for the 15 is comfortable and lovable. It is soft and bouncy. Doesnt make those clicking sounds like some laptops and the keys are big to hit on. Even the buttons on the touch pad is nice and soft but responsive without the clicking sound. The touch pad can be a little bit more responsive. The touch pad has the qualities of the mac, where you can zoom with 2 fingers. The special thing about the 15's keyboard is that the F1 to F12 keys are under the Fn category. Replacing them are the multimedia buttons which is pretty cool considering multimedia keys are used more frequently.
  • The laptop came with those tool bars to keep everything neatly at the top of the desktop. Kinda a nice treat.
  • I feel the laptop came with a little too much bloatware, slowing down the start up.
  • Performance wise, this lappy is above average. Doesnt lag or hang when multi tasking. Laptop fan kicks into max speed when a game is opened. Good call. Left 4 Dead can be played on high quality. No lags with good details and shaders. Left 4 Dead 2 plays fine as well. On high details it doesnt lag or hang. Visuals and audio are good. From what i heard from my friend, WoW & COD4 is good too.
  • Like the compaq, the fan is on the back left side of the laptop. So the laptop heats a little on the left side. Not really noticable. The left palm rest also warms up a little but just a little. All the rest of the lappy stays pretty cool. Just don't Tilt the screen all the way back and play a game as i have just found out that the hot air shoots up the screen instead of behind it.
  • Battery life for the 15 is around 3 hours under normal usage with the Wlan on. Not sure bout this as i dont use the laptop with the battery.

My opinion~

  • Well this would definitely be my laptop if i didin't find out about the benq. For the price, it offers pretty good specs.
  • The usb ports are a little tighter than i like. Removing the thumbdrive from the laptop feels a little bit like tugging a cloth with my dogs.
  • A little disappoited that it doesnt come with the touch sensitive multimedia buttons like my friend's Studio 16.
  • I like it. Any occasional gamers looking for a budget laptop, this would be something you should check out.

Enjoy~
mroar~

BenQ driver's question

Ok so sorry reader which is getting this very late reply.

BenQ drivers can be acquired from a few sources.

  1. From the drivers cd given during purchase.
  2. From benq.com.my
  3. From installing a driver managing software that will download and install all the latest drivers for your laptop. Eg. Driver Detective.
  4. Just a tip. Since Windows 7 doesn't really have specific drivers for it yet. Before installing it, check the "compatibility box" for that program and set under Windows XP or Vista. Also check the "run as administrator" box, it gives less problems this way.
Yea that's about all the options i know of. Enjoy!
Sorry again for late reply.

Compaq Presario CQ40 my review

Thank you maywan for letting me touch your lappy~

Ok so I have no idea how this laptop is cause I only have like 2 hours with it.

Specs~

-2GB ram
-250GB hard disk
-AMD Turion(tm) X2 Dual-Core Mobile RM-74 2.20ghz
-ATI Radeon HD 3200 Graphics 1GB
-Windows Vista, 32bit
-Cd/dvd drive
-Bluetooth, Wlan A,B,G
-14' inch LCD screen with webcam.
- 3 USB ports, 1 HDMI, 1 Lan, 1 normal phoneline, 1 VGA projector, 1 memory card slot, 1 audio and 1 mic.

First look and feel~

- So from what i've been told is that this lappy is about a year old but its a desktop replacement. On first touch, it was warm on the left palm rest, left side on the keyboard, and top left for speakers but the fan output is on the back left so its understandable.

- No touch sensitive multimediea buttons. All multimedia buttons are found on the top row with the F keys under the Fn category.

What I get within 2 hours~

- Speakers spit out pretty good sounds but of course its branded with the Altec Lansing logo. The volume goes pretty loud and the sound only cracks about 85% to 100%.

- The screen is tight so you will feel resistance moving it but its a bit unstable at the top. If you move the laptop you will see the top part wobble. The monitor doesn't go very bright tho.

- The keyboard is quite nice to type on, soft but bouncy. The keyboard feels kinda small tho compared to the 15'inch laptops which i'm used to.

- The performance of the lappy is ok with multi tasking. A little slow with starting applications but it is barely noticable. It would be good for many people who is planning to just do work on it and play light games. Seeing that i didin't have L4D 1 or 2 with me during the review, so i'm guessing it and only guessing that it will manage to play L4D at lower graphics. The laptop had Cabal in it, it lags a little at the start but everything works out fine after that. (get a laptop cooler. A good laptop cooler)

- The laptop doesn't come with much bloatware at all. From what i see it is pretty clean.

- The touch pad is not very sensitive but it does come with those scroll thingy at the side and the bottom i think.

- I don't know the battery life for this lappy but i would dare make a guess of minimum 2 hours 30min or more. It's kinda weighty with the battery.

My opinion~

- This lappy would be pretty good for most people looking for a laptop just to use and light gaming. Only to me, it feels a little bit average and spits out too much heat. If on normal usage it spits this much heat, how hot will it be when gaming? I like the speakers tho. ^^

- Oh yea i just remembered that AMD processors creates more heat than Intel's. No wonder so hot. lol. Can BBQ when gaming.

i used to have problems
thinking of how my dream girl would be like
well know i know
and im not really happy with it.

Sonic Gear - Tatoo Duo 3 my review

Ok..
so I need to update this blog but I have totally no idea
so after looking around my room
the only thing I could think of for now
is my beloved speakers on my table

this shall be a user's review
on how it feels like and stuff
not just numbers..which didin make any sense to me when i first bought it

At first glance -

- It looked awesome! Well to anyone considering it as their computer speakers and have seen it in stores, i'm pretty sure you went "wow!" or "omg i have to have this!". With both the front bass blasting and also one side one, you can just imagine your computer table shaking to everything and truthfully told it bloody does.

- Eventho the finishing isn't really like top class, but still it looks good from almost every angle (unless your unit has some peeling of the skin like mine which i fixed with double sided tape)

Powered up and blasting! -

- After the simple set up for everything (not including the part where you figure out where to put it. Cause lets face it, the design doesn't allow you to put in on the floor like most subwoofers do and having the scary thought of kicking your new baby ain't a happy one). Blasting music from my laptop was just wild. With the treble a little just over the middle and the bass on max, you would transform your room into a miniature club. Crank up the volume and I swear you wont be sitting anywhere near it. I tried it. Watching movies with the tatoo duo3 is a blast. Eventho you dont have the full sound surround, its still bloody fun to watch any kinds of movie with the bass vibrating everything in your room. I watched the whole season of Band of Brothers with it, lovely~

- The 2 mic jacks which comes with it is pretty useless to most people cause i cant imagine anyone singing at their computers to themselves. So i jacked my electric guitar into it. ^^ The lower notes from the guitar sounds much nicer compared to my cheap amp. So another plus point for it.

- I did a subwoofer test on it. The test can be found on youtube. It tests the capability of your subwoofer. Anyone who wants to feel like a jet is parked next to your room, try it. Just don't break anything. The feeling is awesome.

- Sound clarity is definitely there. For the high notes and the low.

My own opinion -

Well I totally love my speakers. There is no other feeling of having my table vibrate when I kill someone in CS with the sniper rifle. For most of the time it great and the good part is, it is portable. So for those small to medium sized parties this would be good enough for some booming music. It heats up a little after leaving it on for a few hours but of course which electronic device doesn't? If your looking for something loud and booming just to have fun or to annoy the neighbors, this should be on the top 3 on that list.

Can't think of much to write about speakers...=.='
